How scoring works

Every player has a price tag and a hidden rating. The price comes from fame: the big box-score numbers everybody remembers. The rating is what he was actually worth, graded only against players from his own position and era, so a 1962 stat line gets no modern-era discount and no free pass. You get $70 for five players, which means somebody has to be a bargain. Your team also has to fit: five guys who can't shoot have spacing problems no matter how famous they are. After 82 games, the truth comes out: every player's real era-adjusted rating next to what you paid, and your roster construction called out line by line. Win 74 or more games with a Knower Score of 80 or better and you're a Certified Basketball Knower. Famous names won't save you. Bargains will.
